Description
Shakespeare’s plays have captivated readers the world over for centuries, exploring profound themes of humanity: life and death, love and loss, the individual versus the greater good.
First published in 1907, this book comes with numerous, original black and white line drawings by Max Bihn. After looking at his drawings, I realized that the full page plates were after (copies of) Frances Brundage’s work. So for those I went to the source and am including her original work, such her 1890 painting of Titania and the Clown and her 1900 painting of Ferdinand and Miranda.
The gorgeous cover is by Arthur Rackham, painted in 1908. Are you sure we’re all awake? with Helena, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
If you’d like to see the Table of Contents with the twenty stories that are included, please take a look at the sample pages.
